MGC President’s Awards 2019-2021

For the 2019 – 2021 Term, the President’s Mission Fund will be used for the following awards:

Michigan Youth Pollinator Garden Award:MYPG

MGC will sponsor seven $100.00 awards, one in each District, to the best judged your activities pollinator garden project sponsored by an MGC Garden Club.
How to Apply: Submit an MGC Award Application using the Award Designation “MYPG” – (Michigan Youth Pollinator Garden) to the MGC Awards Chair, Sue Soderberg, by October 1, of the Award year. The Youth Activities Chair and committee will judge these awards. It would be expected that the Garden Clubs receiving these awards would use the award fund to continue youth activities.

Michigan Pollinator Gardens Award:

$50 will be awarded to each qualifying Small, Medium, Large and Extra-Large Garden Club that registers the most Pollinator Gardens at www.millionpollinatorgardens.org . This award will be based on verifiable submissions of registered gardens turned in as part of The President’s Report/ Club of Distinction Report. The form for recording registered gardens is including with the Presidents Report. No additional application is necessary.

Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc. Supports National Garden Clubs High School Essay Contest:

Beginning with the 2019-2021 Administration, Michigan Garden Clubs will provide monetary support for the National Garden Clubs’ High School Essay Contest. Local MGC Clubs are encouraged to sponsor the Essay Contest at their local High Schools, including, if possible, a monetary award. Clubs will set their own local deadline for submission, in time to be able to judge a local winner for submission to the District/State Awards Committee by January 13th, for further review at the District and State level. Essay Contest topics for the next two years, information and rules are available on the MGC website under Award- Youth Contests

MGC will provide a $100 award to the best judged essay in each District. MGC will provide an additional $300 to the best of the seven District winners. The State winner will go on to Central Region and potentially National as the Michigan entry.

It is anticipated that funding for this award will be ongoing through the MGC annual budgeting process.
