Michigan Garden Clubs, INC. OFFERS GROUP TAX EXEMPTION AND NON-PROFIT INCORPORATION APPLICATION FOR MEMBER CLUBS

NEW CLUBS MAY JOIN FOR THIS BENEFIT

By Patricia Rintamaki, Finance Chairman

Does your club feel the IRS application fee is too high?  Was your Club denied a grant, donation, or participation in an event because it does not have IRS (c) (3) status?

Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc.  is offering assistance with your club’s application to the IRS for a group tax exemption.  Individually your club may apply for 501 (c) (3) status with the IRS; (Filing fee:  $400 for organizations whose gross receipts do not exceed $10,000 or less annually over a 4-year period).  Under the MGC, Inc. umbrella, this fee would be $50.00.  Note:  Clubs with an IRS 501 (c) (3) or (7) Tax Exemption may keep their own status or join the Michigan Garden Clubs’ umbrella application.

In conjunction with the above application, MGC will assist with your clubs’ application for Non-Profit Incorporation with the State of Michigan.  This filing fee, which will be paid directly from your club to the State of Michigan, is $20.00.  The State of Michigan will send your annual notice, 90 days in advance, to your club address.  The annual report if filed by October 1 along with the $20.00 fee.  An instructional manual will be available on our website this April.

We request all Clubs whose intent is to be included in the MGC, Inc. 501 (c) (3) umbrella contact our Chairperson, Attorney Rose Houk houkra@gmail.com.  Garden Clubs who do not currently belong to Michigan Garden Clubs, may want to join for this benefit.
